How to serve your reds this holiday season
(NC)—Ever wonder how to serve your wines properly over holiday meals? Does it matter what glass you use? Campo Viejo, makers of award-winning Rioja wines provides these tips to help you serve your reds perfectly this holiday season:
Glassware: The many different types of wine glasses aren't just for show. Different wines have different characteristics and the different shape and size of each glass does bring out the best in your wine. While it's not absolutely necessary to have all the wine glasses in the market, it does make sense to have a few on hand.
KISS the glass, i.e. “Keep It Simple Sophisticated”. Thin and clear is best to see the wine. Avoid glasses with designs carved into the glass.
Size matters (you knew it). When it comes to red wine glasses, bigger is better. Red wines are bigger and bolder than whites, so choose a glass with a wide opening and bowl. The wider opening lets you take in the aromas (dip your nose in for a whiff) and the wider bowl lets more air in (the process is known as aeration), which releases the bold aromas and flavours of the red wine.
